    Day camp

    First Karaoke in HK

The “second” training has begun this week, however, it is my first training in fact. It is my first time to go to Pacific Place Three, Deloitte’s training center, which is even more modern and beautiful than Deloitte’s office in Pacific Place One. It is also the first time that I can leave work on time before 5:30 pm. Somebody said that training is very boring. In my opinion, it is a little boring, but it is OK, and it is like the courses we had in university. At least it is not as boring as “Jingboring” is, haha~. And the courses are very detail and practical. It is very helpful for the work, so I am a little unfortunate to miss the first training.

17 of the intern students went to New Way tonight. It is a nice day, and I meet many new friends, including Jessie, Sunny, Tina, and Olivary and many others~. HA~

    Written at work

    Idle
Idle again. In fact I have only been idle for about one hour after several days work. But as an intern, we all worry about idle, especially myself. It feels like if for one hour I have nothing to do, I will be crazy about it. We have an interest name to mock the each other-“臃员”…

Yesterday was a tired day. I went to 长洲with my mother and two of my father’ friends. We had seafood there and walked around the island. The beach is not very beautiful there, but it made me wanted to swim as the weather was very good. The rent there is cheap compared to those in Hong Kong Island. I am planning to bring some friends to go there for one or two days.

    Ferry
I was kind of excited that I hadn’t taken a ship for a long time. Yesterday I had enough, about two hours. Watching the ship break the wave was fascinating, and many things come to my mind.

    Fire
After a tired journey, and endless escalators around Festival Walk, when I was about to reach the restaurant, suddenly, the fire alarm rang! Without any smoke or fire. And the loudspeaker began to ask people to leave. People were wooden for a while, then some began to run away and some continued eating. I hesitated for a while then decide to leave before I order anything, although I didn’t think there would be a fire. Finally nothing happened, except that I had to buy sushi from super market for dinner…

Finish the article, and still idle…

    First OT

Finally have some works to do till 7 pm, partly because of my inefficiency. Task here in Deloitte comes irregularly. I had been idle for the first two days in this week, suddenly in this afternoon, I had 3 “tax com” to do, and they are more complicated than the former ones I have done. In the last two weeks, every time when I left the company 15-20 minutes later then official time, I felt kind of guilty as “Big 4” is famous for its OT. For me, it is just like that if you haven’t experienced OT, you haven’t experienced “Big 4”. Hehe, how silly I am.

    Vincent Tam

My very kind senior manager and mentor, he is a very nice man who always has a big smile on his face and is polite to everybody. Because of some disorder, I was send to the Transfer Pricing Department when I arrived. Then I was placed in the wrong floor. Not until the second week was I moving back to the right place and find my mentor Vincent. That is the story of “小蝌蚪找‘爸爸’”. Today Vincent gave me a task to do some research onsales taxas Hong Kong Government is consulting this issue to the public and Deloitte is going to publish some publications. This task is so different from the tax com, which most of the intern students are doing, which is complicated too but mechanical. This task is more close to my economics background compared to other accounting students. Haha~ Thank you, Vincent, you are a considerate manager.

The hot weather warning is in force in HK for these two days. Unlike in Guangzhou, this kind of weather seems to have no effects on me as I only spend about 30 minutes in open door working to or from work. Life in air condition is wonderful. I will do my best to save the kind of life. Hopefully I can continue this life after the intern.

    Progress

Now I know what “tax com” is. It is short for “tax computation”. Finishing a “easy” tax com in one day, I am still “in the cloud”. What is funny is that I am the least professional intern among the six interns in my room. But I am the first one who receives the “tax com” task, which is through to have most “technology content”. After me, they began to face this kind of tasks, but they are more complicated cases.

I am a little proud of the tax com I finished, but not very much, as my senior hasn’t given any comment on it. And the case is simple, and I still don’t understand some items in the cases. Again they ask me why I chose Deloitte!! Though they are not hostile, but I have determined to show them my progress and surprise them one month later!! Heng! Work hard!

    What is professional

Busy days come. I haven’t stopped for the whole day, working on the “tax com” something. There are so many jargons I didn’t know, and so many items which I don’t know is used for what. I had to ask the other intern student again and again. About the end of the day, one of them kindly asked, “Iris, are you majored in accounting?” When they knew that I am not, they said “no wonder you don’t understand these issues.”

Before, I believe that International Economic and Trade is an all-rounded major that we can go to every department we like in the company except R&D. Also I appreciate that the “big 4” accounting companies don’t care about the major too much in recruitment. But in Deloitte, in HK, most students come from different universities’ accounting department. Also I know that accounting is one of the hottest majors in HK. They have spent years on studying accounting. Without courses like “Deng Theory”, they are already one of the busiest majors in university. One of them told me that without credits of optional course, they already have enough credits in the accounting courses. With these professional training, most of them can find a good job after graduate, for example in Deloitte. Though they are new and not sophisticated, they know what they are doing and learn faster. The most important thing is that, they determined to become an accountant and train themselves towards it. I think this is the difference between us. Also I think this is the spirit called professional. In Guangzhou, studying one major doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to work in it in the future. And wishing to work in some industry doesn’t mean that you have to study that major.

After spent three years studying International Economics and Trade, how much have I learned? Am I professional in it? I have to work hard to catch up with them!

Intern life is regulated, with a little funny, a little interesting, a little boring, and a little lonely. The first few days in Deloitte can be described in some words: "小蝌蚪找媽媽" & "找朋友". Too late to explain. Tell you later if I have time and mood.
